Damo & Ivor are well-known characters from the massively popular satirical comedy about the lives of two identical twin brothers separated not long after birth.  One of the boys, Damo, is left to grow up on the mean streets of Dublin to be raised by his maternal Grandmother, Grano, while the other, Ivor, is given a life of wealth and luxury in Dublin’s affluent Foxrock by parents who shower their son with money and little else.

The film directed by Ronan and Rob Burke follows on from the last TV series and sees Damo and Ivor embark on the mother of all adventures across Ireland to find the last piece of their family puzzle, their long-lost brother John Joe.

Andy Quirke, Damo & Ivor The Movie’s writer/creator/lead actor, reprises his roles as Damo, Ivor and John Joe and is joined by some of the much-loved cast of the TV series including Ruth McCabe (Grano) along with other well-known Irish faces Simon Delaney and Tina Kellegher.

Damo and Ivor have a huge online following and have achieved over 8 million views on YouTube, two hit TV series on RTE Two, four top 10 singles including ‘Everybody’s Drinkin’’ and ‘Big Box Little Box’ and a top 10 album as well.

Wildcard Distribution have released the official trailer of Damo & Ivor The Movie ahead of the films world premiere at the Audi Dublin International Film Festival this Friday 2nd March.  The comedy will be released in cinemas nationwide on Friday March 16th.

John Connors wins Best Actor at the IFTA’s for Cardboard Gangsters!

By | Blog, Factual, Picture, Sound | No Comments
John Connors got a standing ovation at the Ifta’s as he picked up best actor for his role in Cardboard Gangsters.  He bet stiff competition in this category  from the likes of Colin Farrell for The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Dafhyd Flynn for Michael Inside, Fionn O’Shea for Handsome Devil and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor for Maze.

Having had its international premiere at the 3rd Manchester International Film winning three of the main awards at the festival there was no doubt that the film would do well on general release. The film picked up Best Feature Film, Best Overall Film, and Best Actor for John Connors. It also received special jury mentions for O’Connor’s Direction and Screenplay, and for Michael Lavelle’s Cinematography.

John Connors plays Jay Connolly, a part-time DJ and low level drug dealer in Darndale, an area victimised by gangs, drugs and social problems. When his welfare is cut off he decides it’s time to enter the big leagues with his gang, in order to help settle his family’s debts. His actions attract the attention of Sean Murphy, the son of the local drug king pin, Derra Murphy, who rules Darndale with an iron fist and has no problems eliminating any potential rivals. Jay knows he’s playing a dangerous game but plans to make just enough money to settle his family’s debts, get out of Darndale, and move to Spain with his pregnant girlfriend. Events spiral out of control when Jay becomes involved with Derra’s wife, and his gang are thrust in to harm’s way, which leaves Jay with a momentous decision to exact revenge, or turn the other cheek.

Cardboard Gangsters is produced by Richard Bolger for Five Knight Films, in association with O’Connor’s Stalker Films. DoP was Michael Lavelle (Patrick’s Day). The film is funded by the BAI, Filmbase, and TV3 and released via Wildcard Distribution.

Ends Meet is an animated sitcom following unemployed da Beezer, his young lad Sean Og and Beezer’s long suffering grandda, Tony, whose house they’re lucky to live in. Sean Og is his giddy little fella who can barely contain the highs and lows childhood brings. He’s the coolest lad in third class and can show you what rap he listens to the prove it.

Finally, there’s Tony, Beezer’s Grandda and Sean Og’s Great-Grandda (not that he’d ever call him that). He’s just trying to wind down his days and enjoy his retirement…if the other two would give him a moment’s peace.Together they live in Abbeydale, a small town in the North of Dublin which missed the boom but got the bust. It’s the perfect place for the trio to scheme, live and just try to make Ends Meet.
