Irish Horror ‘NAILS’ released June 16th

By | Blog, Editing, Film, Sound | No Comments
The brilliant and twisted minds behind horror favourites The Hallow, Let Us Prey and Wake Wood bring us a new addition to their creepy catalogue of horror, feature film NAILS. Once again exploiting the fears and paranoia of modern society and terrifyingly bringing them to life. It’s sure to be a great addition to the genre.
It screened  at The Audi Dublin Film Festival in February. An now it has got an Irish and UK cinema release so you can go see the creepiness for you self from June 16th!
Written and directed by Denis Bartok and produced by Brendan McCarthy and John McDonnell of Ireland’s Fantastic Films,
The film centers on a happily married track coach and mother, Dana Milgrom, Shauna Macdonald from The Descent, who’s survived a near-death car accident only to find herself paralyzed and trapped inside her own body. Forced to communicate via an artificial voice program and hooked to a breathing machine, she becomes convinced that a terrifying presence called ‘Nails’ exists inside her hospital room. No one believes her—not even her own husband and doctors, who think she’s experiencing a mental breakdown.
Kaleidoscope Film Distribution will release NAILS in theaters and on VOD/SVOD in the UK and Ireland this year, exact dates to be announced.
All of the sound post production was completed here in Egg by our team. With Aza Hand designing the sound and Patrick Drummond over seeing it all. We also looked after the rushes ingest, Online editing and delivery.

Good Vibrations

Good Vibrations, Thursday, May 25th, 10.15 PM, RTÉ One
Good Vibrations is an inspiring and insightful documentary exploring the life and work of Orla O’Sullivan from Cork, a Deaf and Visually impaired piano and keyboard teacher to deaf and hearing students.
While Beethoven became deaf in adulthood, Orla was only six weeks old when she became profoundly deaf as a result of receiving life-saving medication given to her for pneumonia. This makes Orla’s achievements even more extraordinary. Even though Orla uses hearing aids, these don’t allow her to hear all of the frequencies so she feels and ‘hears’ music through vibrations, which are then interpreted by the brain.
In this fascinating observational documentary directed by Edel O’Brien for Firebrand Productions, The award winning company behind Bully proof and Autism and Me, and edited by Guy Montgomery, we explore Orla’s personal story, her monumental achievements and her determination to make music accessible to all deaf people.
My ambition is to make it possible for anyone to learn, play and enjoy piano and keyboard to the highest standard”.
Egg completed all of the post production for this one off documentary, with sound by Colm Mullally, Grading by Nikolas Panteris and Online editing by Alan Sullivan.

Cardboard Gangsters coming to a Cinema near you in June!

By | Blog, Editing, Film, Grade, Sound | No Comments
Mark O’Connor’s gritty Irish drama Cardboard Gangsters, starring Love Hate’s John Connors, will be released in Irish cinemas in June. Its been cleaning up in Film festivals around the world, winning Best Actor, Best Feature Film and Film of the Festival at Manchester Film Festival earlier this year. And it was recently awarded Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking at the Newport Beach Film Festival in California. Being compared to Trainspotting and the films of Guy Ritchie and Ken Loach by critics, we are sure that Irish audiences will love it too.
John Connors plays Jay Connolly, a part-time DJ and low level drug dealer in Darndale, an area victimised by gangs, drugs and social problems. When his welfare is cut off he decides it’s time to enter the big leagues with his gang, in order to help settle his family’s debts. His actions attract the attention of Sean Murphy, the son of the local drug king pin, Derra Murphy, who rules Darndale with an iron fist and has no problems eliminating any potential rivals.
Jay knows he’s playing a dangerous game but plans to make just enough money to settle his family’s debts, get out of Darndale, and move to Spain with his pregnant girlfriend. Events spiral out of control when Jay becomes involved with Derra’s wife, and his gang are thrust in to harm’s way, which leaves Jay with a momentous decision to exact revenge, or turn the other cheek.
All of the Sound, Grade and Online was completed here at at EGG. Cardboard Gangsters is produced by Richard Bolger for Five Knight Films, in association with O’Connor’s Stalker Films. The DoP was Michael Lavelle (Patrick’s Day). The film is funded by the BAI, Filmbase, and TV3. It will be released via Wildcard Distribution later this year.
It hits cinemas on the 16th of June.
