Brent Pope is best known for his rugby punditry on RTÉ yet another passion of his is “Outsider Art”. This is a term coined to describe art made by people with no formal training, whose work is created outside the influence of mainstream establishments such as art schools. It is also referred to as Raw Art.
Having put out a national call for submissions in early 2015, Brent travelled across the country in search of the very best Irish Outsider Art he could find. With the help of art historian, Catherine Marshall, he put together a collection of 45 paintings and drawings, which is currently being exhibited in Dublin in the Copper House Gallery from the 7th to the 25th of October. This is the first Irish only Outsider art group collection on this scale ever to be exhibited in Ireland.
